Urg! How

I did it all in Photoshop with vector objects, layer effects, plus a repeating leather texture I overlaid. It’s fairly easy.

How did you replicate the stitching so well? Looking for a good stitch brush.

Bryan Bell
I drew one stitch as a vector object, then made it a smart object. Then I laid them out in a straight line pattern. Finally I Applied a slight Ripple Filter to the lot of them.

this strategy might come in handy for something I’m working on…

Cable shutter release for your iPhone

delgrosso:

With iOS 5 on your iPhone (or iPad 2) comes the ability to take a photo in the Camera app by using the “up” volume button instead of the on-screen button. And since your earbuds also have volume controls, you can use your earbud button as a remote shutter release — a handy feature.

I’ve heard it also works with the volume up button on a bluetooth headset, but mine doesn’t have one so I can’t confirm.

This is brilliant. Melon Meter:

Melon Meter 1.0: Using real science to save you money!

☞ Fact: An average watermelon costs between $5 and 10$
☞ Fact: Market Research shows that up to 60% of watermelons bought are either overripe or underripe
☞ Fact: Watermelons don’t ripen off the vine, or in the store - they only decay.
☞ Fact: Melon Meter saves you money by helping you find a melon ready to eat!

Everyone hates spending hard earned money on a watermelon, anticipating a nice juicy, ready to eat melon, only to find the melon is not ready to eat….either too hard (under ripe) or way too soft (over ripe). And because watermelons don’t ripen off the vine, it makes it even more important to find the most ready to eat melon in the store. Our team has developed a tool (Melon Meter), using real science, to help you find the most “ready” melon in the store.

Location Settings in [redacted]

The utility app I’m working on is heavy on location services and the compass. I want to give some control over the location access, and make sure it is easy to understand the effects when adjusting the settings.

When Auto-Locate is enabled, the compass switch is on and locked since there’s no point in running with the GPS on and compass off. When you disable Auto-Locate, the compass stays on, but the switch is unlocked so it is possible to turn it off.

The video is a recording of a portion of the back side of the app.

Note: I didn’t realize until I uploaded this that Vimeo doesn’t do mobile embeds unless you have a Plus account. So the video doesn’t play on iPhones and iPads. Dammit.

Working on a utility app, and as I start to close in on the final version of the front, its time to start thinking about what to put on the back.

Latest Mediary candidate, seen here in the wild on my home screen.

I couldn’t get comfortable with how the bottom looked, so I changed it to show the side. Tossed in an elastic band to hold it closed, layered on some shadows and gradients and boom.

Thanks skipperdan, elly, sam, and slow ridin’ for the feedback today!
