George Tscherny completed a bogglingly wide range of work standardizing the graphics for Pan Am in the early ’70s, redesigning everything from timetables to stewards’ aprons over the course of two years. These city guides are of a piece with the company’s other projects of that era, recalling both the bold imagery of Chermayeff & Geismar’s posters for the company and Tscherny’s own modular environmental graphics.
A lightning bolt appears to strike the iconic Eiffel Tower while the Paris landmark is seen illuminated in vibrant blue lights. Amateur photographer Bertrand Kulik captured the shot which will appear in an exhibition titled “Lumieres celestes, lumieres des hommes”, in Issy L’eveque, Burgundy. It was taken in July last year during a storm in the French capital.

”It is suggested that the soundtrack was dubbed with the sound of Lelouch’s Ferrari 275 GTB, which has a corresponding number of gears and a V12 sound that is quite distinct from that of any V8, including the 6.9 liter V8 of the alleged Mercedes camera car.”
